Ingredients

250g butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup golden syrup

1 egg

4½ cups plain flour

1 tsp bicarbonate soda

2 tsp ground ginger

½ tsp ground cloves

½ tsp ground nutmeg

½ tsp ground cinnamon

 

Method

Preheat oven to 180˚C.

Beat butter and sugar together in a mixer till light and creamy. Add egg and golden syrup and beat together. Sift in all remaining dry ingredients, and stir to combine to bring dough together.

Place the dough in cling wrap in the fridge for an hour.

Roll out the dough on floured surface to a 4mm thick and cut shapes with biscuit cutters. Place on a tray lined with baking paper and bake for 10-12 minutes. Enjoy 😊

  1. I haven’t had gingerbread biscuits since my grandmother passed. My mouth is water, and I think it’s about time I make these gems. Thanks for the recipe – and the reminder. 🙂

  2. These look yummy. I love gingerbread cookies at Christmas time and used to make them all the time since I was a child. Now in Japan, I don’t have all the tools to make gingerbread men, so I make regular round soft ginger cookies. They do job just as well 😉

  3. Gingerbread is the taste of Christmas. I was only saying today that this is the first year I haven’t made any gingerbread, but I still have time 🙂
