Between the blue waters of the Bay of Plenty and the polar evergreen inland hilltops, is where you will find Fothergills on Mimiha B&B. This true New Zealand bed and breakfast exudes hospitality and will make you feel right at home.
Our two-night stay at Fothergills B&B gave us the opportunity to discover a little bit more about this region of the North Island. With a central location, it’s a great place to base yourself when checking out nearby attractions. The beach is less than 1km away, and it is twenty minutes to nearby thermal pools, the town of Whakatane, the kiwifruit town of Paengaroa and many local golf courses. It’s an easy one-hour drive to Rotorua and forty five minutes to Tauranga, where the extinct volcanic cone of Mount Maunganui (or “The Mount” to the locals) dominates its home town.
Fothergills B&B is also the perfect base for exploring the nearby spectacular active volcanic island, White Island. Guided tours are required and Fothergill hosts Bev and Hilton are more than happy to arrange a tour for you.
The self-contained accommodation at Fothergills B&B is completely separate to the main residence providing privacy and peace and quiet. Upstairs are the two bedrooms with a modest kitchenette. Both bedrooms are comfortable and have TV, DVD and wireless broadband is available, though limited. You’ll also find fresh fruit, home-made biscuits and a variety of tea and coffee in the unit.
Having lived within the area for over fifty years, Bev and Hilton are knowledgeable hosts. The beauty of the surrounding countryside has captivated them and encouraged their bed and breakfast business. Both take pride in their property and the immaculate gardens are an example of this. It’s lovely to take a walk and appreciate the surrounding peaceful grounds they have established over the years. Their produce is plentiful. Home grown and home-made foods are a distinct feature of this bed and breakfast. With a vast vegetable garden and orchard, Fothergills source most of their own produce resulting in fresh and delicious meals brought to their table.
Above all, Bev is a fantastic cook. Each morning she would prepare a different specialty using the crops from her beloved garden. Arriving at breakfast in the main residence to the inviting aromas of freshly brewed coffee, cereals, breads, French toast, homemade jams, (which she sells as well) and delicious home-grown berries, was a highlight.
Fothergills on Mimiha B&B, is a great little spot for some rest and relaxation time when discovering the Bay of Plenty in New Zealand. A home away from home with kind, welcoming hosts who go out of their way to make sure your stay in the Bay of Plenty is an enjoyable one. Fothergills is where you will find genuine hospitality.

Oh her jams were just delicious Nisha. She bottles them and sells them too, and we were lucky to get one to bring back home with us. 😋

Amazing photos Lorelle. Everything looks green and gorgeous. You did a fantastic job with the photos of the plated up breakfasts. Those plums made my mouth water, and that yogurt and berries looked sensational. I know how hard photographing food, so I can appreciate what a great job you did with these photos.

Another beautiful place to stay. I’ve never seen kiwi fruit actually growing. How interesting

I know Carol. That was a first for us too. We are so used to just buying them in the shops here so to see the crops were fascinating. In that photo there are only two actual plants. Kiwis grow like vines and it seems like there are more than just two plants there.
It was definitely interesting to see. 😊
