Hawke’s Bay’s little slice of peaceful beauty, can be found tucked away in the back streets of the small suburb of Clive. Amongst the plethora of tall orchard groves that endlessly line the streets of this fertile area, this little hidden oasis in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, is a true find. Lawn Cottages provide luxury self-contained accommodation and is centrally located, ensuring all that awaits to be discovered is only a stone’s throw away.
Our gracious hosts, David and Eric, have invested dedication and devotion over the past 18 months, renovating and modernising the cottages. With an innovative plan of an additional three cottages in the process and an expansion to their gorgeous grounds, David and Eric’s dream is slowly becoming a reality. Their passion is indisputable and their hospitality, profuse.
The large 2-bedroom cottage we occupied was extremely comfortable and felt like home away from home. A private garden accessed from the covered verandah deck of the cottage, was the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine on the swing or the adorable wicker furniture by the pond. Outdoor seating and barbecue facilities allow the option of a restful night in. Breakfast provisions are supplied, and a full kitchen permits catering for breakfast, lunch and dinners if you are there for a longer period of time. Special little touches of freshly picked herbs from the garden to use in your cooking and a little bowl of chocolates (which were devoured by my children) was thoughtful. The new beds and bedding are extremely comfortable, and the bathrooms modern with underfloor heating and a massaging shower head. Wi-Fi is efficient and there are laundry facilities available. David and Eric were kind enough to let us use their outdoor clothes line to dry our clothes and even recommended their favourite local restaurant (Off the Track) to dine at one evening, in which they rang and booked for us.
The lush gardens are meticulously cared for and Eric’s dedication and joy for his prized garden is commendable. Hidden pathways amidst beautiful ferns, flowers and deliciously fresh fruit trees and herbs, which guests are able to help themselves to, create a welcoming yet mysterious outdoor sanctuary.
Amongst a secret garden setting, Lawn Cottages are ideal for families, groups or couples, wishing to escape the city hustle and bustle, whether it be overnight or for a week. When visiting the nearby renowned vineyards or picturesque coastlines of the Hawke’s Bay region, Lawn Cottages is the appropriate choice of accommodation. Seclusion, harmony and well-being, an experience you will always remember, from the beginning to the end.

That is a beautiful green property in which to reinvigorate the senses, Lorelle. I think the owners have done a brilliant job. They must be happy to have people over who get the essence of the operation — summed up in that one line of yours. ‘Their passion is indisputable and their hospitality, profuse.’ Those two factors can make all the difference when you choose to stay somewhere. xx

Looks like a very welcoming place. Loved those two outside white cane chairs. Don’t know what it is about white cane but it always looks like they’re saying, “come sit a while”.

For sure Chris. So I gladly listened to them and took them up on their offer. It was lovely just to sit for a while 😉
